    The Counselling

I aim to provide a supportive and empathic space where you feel free to be yourself,  where you can talk freely without being judged and where we will work together to discover the resources within yourself, which can help you move forward.  I see my role as that of  a companion on your own unique journey of self-discovery and I hope that as your story unfolds you will feel understood. and empowered. The type of counselling I do is  the "person-centred approach".

The First Session

During the first 15 minutes or so, we will discuss what you would like to get out of counselling, we will sign a written agreement about how we will work,  you will be given details of our data protection policy and I will take some details.  The rest of the session will be like a normal counselling session, when you are free to talk about whatever concerns you. I usually ask very few questions so that you have the space you need to develop your thoughts.

Confidentiality

What you say and what we discuss in the session is private and confidential, unless you tell me something that would lead me to believe that you, or someone else, were at risk of serious harm. If this were the case, I may need to disclose this information in line with my professional and legal duty of care. However, wherever possible, I would discuss this with you so that we could decide the best course of action together.

I work with a supervisor with whom I discuss my work. This may mean referring to you anonymously. In this case however, I and my way of working  are the focus of attention.
